Community Outreach Ministries

In addition to the many individual community outreach efforts of Moravian congregations across the U.S., the Moravian Church in North America sponsors two ministries to offer support to people in need, regardless of faith. The Northern Province supports Moravian Open Door in New York City, while the Southern Province supports Sunnyside Ministry in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Moravian Open Door – A Ministry of the Moravian Church Northern Province

Moravian Open Door is a not-for-profit (501c-3) organization committed to providing transitional housing and supportive services to the homeless, distressed and underserved population of New York City. Our ministry serves those individuals who are fifty and older with the goal of helping them regain their independence and security, and assisting them in moving to appropriate, permanent facilities. MOD is funded solely by church and private donations and a nominal monthly program fee. We do not receive any city or federal funding.

Sunnyside Ministry – A Ministry of the Moravian Church Southern Province

Sunnyside Ministry, an emergency assistance agency, was established in 1978 by the Moravian Church in America, South Province. Our purpose is to assist residents of South Central Forsyth and Northern Davidson counties who are facing emergency situations caused by financial crises.
We provide housing and utility payments, food, clothing and household items, a medical clinic, college scholarships and more to assist those in need.

The Lord has sent me to comfort all who mourn. Isaiah 6:1,2

God consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. 2 Corinthians 1:4

You are our refuge and strength, O God, our ever-present help in trouble. Embolden us to share the good news of your steadfast love. Make us instruments your consolation, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
