Meet Sunnyside’s New Director

We are pleased to announce the appointment of David Holston as Executive Director of Sunnyside Ministry, beginning in mid-June of 2015. David has over five years of experience creating, building, and overseeing crisis ministry programs. His has been employed at Rowan Helping Ministries in Salisbury as Director of Shelter Services as well as VA Case Manager, where his duties included staff supervision, grant writing, volunteer coordination, and community relations. David has a passion for crisis ministry and a particular understanding of working with special populations and those who are marginalized. David lives in Lexington and is a lifelong member of Home Moravian Church, where he teaches Sunday School and serves as an usher. The board and staff of Sunnyside Ministry welcome David and are eager to work with him in their mission to express the love of Christ by providing families short-term emergency assistance for life’s basic needs.

Tommy Cole To Retire

Tommy Cole, Director of Sunnyside Ministry since August of 2007, has requested and been given permission to retire from this appointment, effective June 30, 2015. During Tommy’s time as Director, Sunnyside Ministry has grown. Over 200 volunteers from 60 area churches provide nearly $2 million in crisis assistance, primarily for those on the south side of Winston-Salem, NC. In 2010 and 2011, the facilities were completely renovated to more effectively serve neighbors in need.

The Sunnyside Program Board and the Board of Cooperative Ministries will conduct a search process for a new director in the coming months. We give thanks to God for Tommy’s ministry, and invite your prayers for him, for his family, and for the staff, volunteers, and people served by Sunnyside. Read more about Tommy’s legacy in the March 2015 Moravian Magazine.

Wednesday, November 22 — Psalm 131
Daniel 9:1–10:7; Jude 1:11–25

O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever. Psalm 28:9

Jesus says, “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.” John 10:16

Good Shepherd, so often as a church we look to those outside our own community as “other.” May we let go of our pride and work together with all people so we will be one flock under your leadership. Amen.
