Working Groups

The Board of Cooperative Ministries carries out its mission through a 5-person staff and its working groups, made up of Board members and other volunteers. In early 2016, BCM reorganized itself in order to address its mission more fully. Members identified which groups they wanted to affiliate with by asking themselves the following focusing questions:

  • Where do your passions and interests lie as it relates to the mission of BCM?
  • What gifts, talents, and experience do you bring to the work of a group or team as we head toward the future together?
  • Who else should we bring to the table to help carry out our vision?

Our working groups include:

  • Adaptive Leadership Group
The Adaptive Leadership group is now meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10am in the BCM offices. This group formed for the purpose of thoughtful discussion, as envisioned by the “Adaptive Change” discussion group at the 2017 Inter-Synodal Conference in February 2017.  The group serves as support for clergy, educators, and lay leaders, and provides a space for discussion about adaptive change, leadership, and the changing nature of church.
  • Aging Well Team
Mission/Purpose: To help congregations provide meaningful programing and resources for their older adult members.  Plan older adult retreat and fall rally. Convener: Joy Cole/Kathy Sparks.
  • Children, Family, and Youth Task Force
Mission/Purpose: To celebrate and encourage children and youth in the life of our church and support faith communities as we fulfill the promise of baptism for our Moravian families. Convener: Heidi Everhart.
  • Environmental Stewardship Task Force
Mission/Purpose: To find ways to connect Moravians with resources related to care for creation, including an annual event, presentations to congregations and other opportunities as they arise. Anyone with a love for nature, working with youth and stewardship is welcome! Convener: Greg Keener.
  • Friends of the Resource Center
Mission: To support the ministry of the Resource Center. The Friends of the Resource Center committee meets four times a year usually in late afternoon with the first hour spent working in the Center to tidy up and then the second hour to talk about ways we can promote the Center, market the center, etc.
  • Living the Essentials Planning Team
Mission: To design creative strategies that engage and inspire individuals, lay and clergy leaders, small groups, congregations, regional conferences, and provincial organizations. Listen to and learn from others, explore possibilities, and compile and develop diverse resources to help Moravians live the essentials.
  • Mental Health Roundtable
Mission: To provide education and advocacy for congregations and RCCs in order to support those experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.  Convener: Kelly Moore.
  • “Who is My Neighbor?” Conference Planning Team
Mission: To coordinate planning for a provincial conference that will explore what it means to “be neighbor” from biblical, theological, and practical perspectives.
  • RCC Adhoc Group
Mission: To review and evaluate RCC effectiveness and needs, and provide recommendations to BCM on ways to strengthen these groups.
  • Small Group Ministry Team
Mission: To develop, support, promote, and educate members about small group ministry opportunities, including the Gemeinschaft and Living Faith models. Convener: Michael Terry
  • Young Adult Ministry Working Group
Mission: To serve as a resource to enhance the young adult ministry in our congregations. How are congregations ministering to their young adults? How are our congregations not ministering to the needs of young adults? What can be done?

Moravian Daily Texts

Tuesday, September 18 — Psalm 107:23–32
1 Samuel 9; John 1:1–13

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. 1 Samuel 3:9

Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. 1 John 2:24

Lord, you speak to us in many varied ways—in the beauty of creation, in the cry of one in need, in the still small voice within us. Open our hearts to understanding and discerning your desire for us. Then use us Lord, just as you will. Amen.
