NP – York, Pa. church demonstrates faith through fellowship by helping those in need

012014yorkintroMany of the most quoted New Testament stories involve the message that faith manifests itself not only in our personal one-on-one relationship with God, but when we look outside ourselves during fellowship and service. In his miracles and ministry, Christ teaches us that faith is not only represented in our quiet times of prayer and reflection, but in our moments of deep fellowship with others and heartfelt service to help those in great need.

112013CowboyChurchIntro“Get along little doggie” isn’t something you hear very often in church. But when the Daggett Moravian Congregation gathered on September 8 for their third annual “Cowboy Church” observance, it’s certain that visions of the Way Out West were on member’s minds.

With attendance three times the normal, folks gathered in their western attire for a western lifestyle worship experience. The community was invited to join with members in a relaxed atmosphere.

(NP) Ohio congregations join together for “Grace in the Valley”

102013graceinvalleyintroThe mellow reverberations of steel pans called to mind a wide swath of beach, a sapphire lagoon, maybe a palm tree swaying in the tropical breeze. But no, the sweet sounds spread from a concert stage in land-locked New Philadelphia, Ohio and delighted the packed house of the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Kent State University at Tuscarawas.

NP – Historic lovefeast brings together ecumenical partners

092013lovefeastintroNearly one thousand Lutherans, Episcopalians and Moravians gathered in Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pa. for a unique celebration of the full communion relationship among the three denominations—the first-ever of its kind.

The celebration arose out of several years of conversation among the heads of the local territories of the three denominations: the Rt. Rev. Paul V. Marshall, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem, the Rev. Samuel R. Zeiser, bishop of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the Rev. David Bennett, president of the Eastern District, Northern Province, of the Moravian Church. Their discussions of ways to demonstrate full communion led to the question of what the three churches have in common. One clear answer: Music.

NP – Young adults study the importance of their faith at Wisconsin retreat

052013wdretreatintroI always get excited driving to Mt. Morris in Wautoma, Wis.; not just because of the beauty Mt. Morris has to offer but because of the people I am going to meet upon my arrival. The weekend of March 1-3, 2013 was no different.

I traveled west on Hwy 21 from Oshkosh, Wis. with a car full of four young adults. As we got further from the cities and closer to Mt. Morris I started to feel my excitement building. I thought about the laughter to be had, the songs to be sung and the inside jokes that only this special group will understand and fully appreciate.
