About Moravian Synods

Moravian Church Synods are an assembly of church delegates, including clergy and lay people, who are called together for discussion, decision, and policy-making regarding church matters. Church legislation is enacted by these Synods or general business meetings. Each Province has its own Synod every four years. Every seven years a Unity Synod is held in which representatives from all home and mission provinces assemble. These synods often include times of worship and fellowship and serve as a time of reflection and forethought to the future of the church.

During the Intersynodal periods, districts of the provinces in the case of the Northern Province hold their own district synods. In the Southern Province, an Intersynodal conference is held. These smaller meetings are held to assist the Provinces in educating and furthering the work of the Synods. In some cases, they also serve to elect directors and create committees to further the vision of the denomination.
