Letters to the Editor Policy

The Moravian Magazine welcomes letters to the editor.

All letters must include the name of the author and a postal address to be considered for publication. No anonymous letters to the editor will be considered or given credence.

Due to space limitations, letters must be kept short and concise within a 200-word range. Letters may be edited for clarity and space considerations.

Letters on one topic or in reference to a past article will be published in accordance with the timeliness of that article. In general, because of deadlines, letters on one topic will be printed within a time range of 3-4 months from the time the first article in question appeared.

In the event several letters are received in regard to one particular topic, the letters best representing opposing viewpoints in accordance with space limitations will be chosen for publication by the editor.

Letters that are not in keeping with the mission and purpose of the Interprovincial Board of Communication will not be considered. In all cases, the editor has the right to edit, accept, or reject letters to the editor for publication.

Commentary Selection Procedure

Starting in 2004, a regular Commentary section will be featured in The Moravian Magazine. Invited guests will write commentary columns on a particular topic of interest. Writers are selected based on their area of expertise as it pertains to the topic featured in the magazine. In some cases, depending on topic, commentary columns may be in point/counterpoint format showing a few sides to a particular issue or topic.

These columns are more opinionated in nature than other articles appearing in the magazine and thus fall under the commentary section. The opinions in these articles do not necessarily represent the viewpoint of the governance of the Moravian Church in North America or the Interprovincial Board of Communication.

These columns are to range from 400-1200 words in length and the writer will be clearly identified in a byline along with any other qualifying information. The columns must be in keeping with the mission of the and purpose of the Interprovincial Board of Communication

The reading audience may respond to this opinion column through the letter to the editor section of the magazine.

In all cases, the editor has the right to edit, accept, or reject any commentary articles.
