Board of World Mission offers grants to congregations responding to the COVID-19 pandemic

The Moravian Board of World Mission sees the Covid-19 pandemic as a disaster now affecting most areas of the world. Here in North America, many congregations are suspending worship services, Sunday school classes, Bible Studies, and many other group meetings. As a result, congregations are finding unexpected needs that cost money.

The BWM is now offering grants of up to $200 (US) from its Moravian Disaster Response funds to Northern and Southern Province congregations to help defray the costs of critical outreach efforts and ministries.

Some congregations are streaming their worship services and Bible studies on the internet, and more congregations are looking into how they can do this.  This money could be used to purchase streaming software such as Zoom (which currently costs $14.99 per month to reach at least 100 homes). Another option would be to use this money to help purchase a congregational phone messaging program such as One Call Now. You could also use this money to cover postage to send out special mailings members of your congregation to increase communication.  These are just a few suggestions and we want you to use it as seems best in your context.

If you would like to apply for one of these $200.00 grants, please contact the Rt. Rev. Chris Giesler, at [email protected]. We would like to know how you intend to use this money, to whom the check should be mailed, and how it should be made out.
