Prayers for the 3rd Week after Epiphany (January 22-28, 2023)

Watchword for the Week:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

Gracious Lord, your creation is amazing.
We respond with praise and thanksgiving
Jesus Christ is the visible form of the invisible creator,
We respond with obedience to your call.
The Spirit of God is blowing through our lives,
Let us worship in Spirit and truth.
The Lord is calling to us.
Let us respond with joy.

Psalm 27:1,4-9

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
4
 One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.
6 Now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me!
8 “Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!” Your face, Lord, do I seek.
9 Do not hide your face from me. Do not turn your servant away in anger, you who have been my help.
Do not cast me off, do not forsake me, O God of my salvation!

Confession of Sin

As siblings in Christ, let us confess our shared need for God’s grace.

Loving God, we confess that too often, we live by fear rather than by faith. Too often, we have forgotten that we are yours. Sometimes we carry on our lives as if there was no God, and we fall short of being credible witnesses to you. For these things, we ask your forgiveness, and we also ask for your strength. Give us clear minds and open hearts so we can share your love. Remind us to be who you would have us to be regardless of our actions or who we are with.

Fear not, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

Take time to read today’s Daily Texts. If you do not have a copy of the Daily Texts, you will find today’s texts posted in the margin on your page’s right side (at the bottom of the page if you are on a mobile phone). God speaks to us through the inspiration of scripture, so approach the opportunity to read the texts as a privilege, eagerly anticipating what might be conveyed to you today. How might today’s Word make a part of your life new again? When you have finished praying, continue as follows.

Lord God, hear us as we pray the prayer that you taught your disciples:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Lord, you now have set your servant free
to go in peace as you have promised;
for these eyes of mine have seen the Savior,
Whom you have prepared for all the world to see.
A Light to enlighten the nations,
And the glory of your people Israel.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

As we go about the challenges of this day, let us never forget that Christ is at the foundation of all that we are and all we do.
Let the world see that we are Christians by how we live our lives.
Let us go from here fearless, and let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
