Aging Well Team

Due to the risk to the greater community and as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19, we are canceling all Aging Well events for 2020. Be sure to join us for the 2021 Aging Well Conference and Fall Rally! Information about event details will be sent through our weekly e-news and on our social media accounts. Also, “like” the Aging Well Team’s Facebook Page for the latest information on events and resources from the team!

Check out this webinar, Faith Communities, Older Adults, and COVID-19, to learn how to reach your congregation’s older brothers and sisters during this time of physical distancing! You can also access the slides from this presentation.

The Aging Well Team helps congregations recognize the need for and then find meaningful ways of providing programming and resources for their members who are older adults, as they age and deal with a variety of challenges. The team focuses their time and energy in the following areas:

  • The Aging Well Conference:  Attendees will be able to choose from a series of workshops designed to help older adults navigate today’s changing world.
  • Older Adult Fall Rally: Moravians from across the province enjoy a fellowship meal, entertainment, and hear updates on various provincial outreach efforts.
  • Older Adult Liaisons: The team asked congregations to designate a liaison who both receives and shares information about various opportunities in the community, such as health screenings, Tai Chi schedules, Provincial events, etc. If your congregation would like to add a liaison to our distribution list, please contact Heather Stevenson at (336) 722-8126.

Aging Well Team Background:
In 2014, the provincial Senior Friends Advisory Council discussed ways to reach out to more Moravian older adults.  As congregations continue to age (28% of Moravians in the Southern Province are over 65 years of age), effective older adult ministry becomes even more critical. The Aging Well Team was born out of this conversation. Several members of the Senior Friends group volunteered to be on this task force. It includes 2 retired geriatric nurses as well as several other members who have an interest in this area of ministry.
