The Board of Cooperative Ministries has been busy since mid-March working on providing the most up-to-date information and resources as gathering restrictions limit churches’ ability to meet in person. Our goals for this time have been to:
- Serve all Moravian congregations in North America, with particular care for those which do not have full-time clergy or pre-existing online worship;
- Provide technical support to ministry leaders, both clergy & lay; and
- Offer substantive online Moravian content and/or content featuring Moravians where possible.
To that end, we’ve:
- Identified existing livestream and online worship opportunities and worked with IBOC to get those published.
- Created an interprovincial digital ministry team (reps from IBOC, Moravian Church Without Walls-MCWW, BCM) to coordinate online worship throughout North America (particularly for those Moravians whose churches are not able to livestream or meet virtually).
- Collaborated with IBOC and MCWW to host Virtual Holy Week Services that featured dramatic readings of the Holy Week story with over 25 Moravian readers from the U.S. and Canada.
- Developed and hosted a variety of webinars (many of which have been recorded and uploaded to our website and YouTube channel).
- Established Virtual Office Hours featuring guests whose information and wisdom might be particularly relevant now.
- Enhanced the Weekly E-News, focusing on technical support and Moravian content.
- Released new, relevant BCM Spotlight Blog post each week featuring articles about Moravian history to current events.
- Offered lots of one-on-one technical support over email and the phone with clergy and other ministry leaders as they work to transition to some kind of online ministry.
- Created “The Moravian Experience,” a self-guided experience for people who want to do faith formation on their own during this time. Content includes adaptable material from the Gemeinschaft curriculum and Living Faith. As well as new content based on the Easter Sunday Morning liturgy, the Moravian Covenant for Christian Living, Ground of the Unity and so much more!
- Started #BeMoravianStar campaign “staring” the yards of those who are making a difference in their community through both small and big acts of kindness.
- Introduced a new, modified curriculum ordering system.
We will continue to offer resources relevant to Moravian congregations during this unprecedented time and are open to any ideas that might be helpful to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Below are links to all the content created or curated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
