Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
Watchword for the Week — Jesus says, “Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life.” John 6:47
Sunday, August 12 — 1 Kings 19:4–8; Psalm 34:1–8
Ephesians 4:25–5:2; John 6:35, 41–51
The servant of God said, “I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I did not hide my face from insult and spitting.” Isaiah 50:6
Jesus also suffered outside the city gate. Let us then go to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured. Hebrews 13:12–13
When we are offended, Lord, you have taught us how to reply in a Christ-like way. Although this is hard to do sometimes, you show us how we should truly live. We will always be your children looking to you for life’s lessons. Amen.
