Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

Watchword for the Week — Jesus says, “Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life.” John 6:47

Sunday, August 9 — 1 Kings 19:4–8; Psalm 34:1–8
Ephesians 4:25–5:2; John 6:35, 41–51

The Lord searches every mind, and understands every plan and thought. 1 Chronicles 28:9

When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

Lord, we are embarrassed by the clutter in our prayer closet, but you are not. We get stuck in shame even as you offer eternal grace. Your reward is freedom from fear. Your salvation heals our duplicity. May we trust you wholly. Amen.
