Fourth Sunday of Advent

Watchword for the Week — God has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly. Luke 1:52

Sunday, December 23 — Micah 5:2–5a; Luke 1:46b–55
Hebrews 10:5–10; Luke 1:39–45,(46–55)

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Psalm 34:7

An angel of the Lord stood before the shepherds, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people.” Luke 2:9–10

Lord of heavenly armies, you are powerful enough to bring fear as you enter our lives. Yet, too, you are balm for the wounds of the world. Calm our fears to hear your message; send us forth to discover your good news and give us courage to share it. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
