Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

Watchword for the Week — Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god. Isaiah 44:6

Sunday, July 20 — Isaiah 44:6-8; Psalm 86:11-17
Romans 8:12-25; Matthew 13:24-30,36-43

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Redeemer Lord, as we run we can stumble and tire quickly. Best intentions become regrettable sins and simple fatigue becomes uncaring actions. On this Sabbath let us rest and begin our race with renewed energy and dedication. Amen.
