The Chief Elder Festival
Watchword for the week — Brothers and sisters, do not be weary in doing what is right. 2 Thessalonians 3:13

Sunday, November 13 — Malachi 4:1-2a; Psalm 98
2 Thessalonians 3:6-13; Luke 21:5-19

The Chief Elder Festival† — Ezekiel 34:11-16,23-24; Psalm 8
Hebrews 4:14-16; John 10:1-10

Gideon said, “Lord, if now I have found favor with you, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me.” Judges 6:17

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14 NIV

Chief Elder, through you, we find favor with God and are able to approach you with our requests. Help us to do so, seeking not our wants, but your will, so that we may bear witness and glorify you. Amen.

† On this day in 1741, it was announced in all Moravian congregations that Jesus Christ had been chosen Chief Elder of the Moravian Church. The Moravian Church has had no single human chief executive since then, and now observes this as a festival day.
