Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Watchword for the week — Proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2

Sunday, October 19 — Genesis 32:22-31; Psalm 121
2 Timothy 3:14-4:5; Luke 18:1-8

O God, do not keep silent; do not hold your peace or be still, O God! Even now your enemies are in tumult; those who hate you have raised their heads. Psalm 83:1-2

Lord, should we strike with the sword? Luke 22:49

In a world filled with strife, it is too easy to hunger for retribution. Lord, let us forsake the quick but cruel sword; be our shield against anger and hatred. Guide our hearts towards lasting peace and our hands towards the enduring work of turning swords to plowshares, we pray. Amen.
