Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost
Watchword for the week — Jesus said, “All who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18:14

Sunday, October 23 — Jeremiah 14:7-10,19-22; Psalm 84:1-7
2 Timothy 4:6-8,16-18; Luke 18:9-14

To the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite my statutes, or take my covenant on your lips? For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.” Psalm 50:16-17

But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing. James 1:25

Through the saving grace offered to us in Jesus Christ, we come in penitence before you, O Lord, seeking cleansing and renewal. Then, in your mercy, send us forth once more to labor for your sake. Amen.
