Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost

Watchword for the week — Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35

Sunday, September 19 — Jeremiah 11:18-20; Psalm 54
James 3:13-4:3,7-8a; Mark 9

Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath. Do not fret—it leads only to evil. Psalm 37:8

How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. James 3:5-6

Shepherd of our soul, refresh and bless us. Jesus, preserver of our lives, help us guard our hearts and minds against evil. May our tongues be instruments of praise. Like you, Lord Jesus, may we seek to serve and not to be served. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
