Ahuas Clinic Committee Announced

The Board of World Mission is excited to announce the formation of a new committee to help provide additional focus and energy in support of the Ahuas Clinic in La Mosquitia, Honduras.

This is a long-standing ministry which has seen a variety of connections with the Board of World Mission (BWM) over its 70 plus year history.

For a long time, the clinic was administered by long term missionaries serving in a variety of capacities, including as medical personnel. In recent years, the BWM has worked through consultant Rick Nelson, who was present nearly full time at the clinic. Upon completion of his service in summer 2019, there was a need for a formal system to step in and help manage the relationship with the clinic, and to provide financial and administrative support.

Beginning in fall 2019, five volunteers have agreed to serve three year terms to get this new ministry up and running. Those who have accepted this call are:

Andrew Starr (Wisconsin)
Brian Stephens (Wisconsin)
Lisa Pampe (Illinois)
Dr. Benno Marx (Washington)
Weldon Harris (North Carolina)

These individuals come from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds, and all have a heart for mission service and continuing the provision of high quality medical care in Ahuas, Honduras.

Initial stages of the committee will include a visit by Committee Chair, Andrew Starr, to the clinic to meet with the Director of the Clinic and several members of the local medical board. The entire committee will also begin meeting this fall to discern the best path forward for garnering additional financial and volunteer support for the Clinic.

This is a ministry under the supervision of the BWM, and was developed to help enhance the ability of the BWM to expand the network of people and organizations who help support this important ministry.
