Labrador Youth Experience Camp at Laurel Ridge

This summer, the Board of World Mission coordinated an extensive camper exchange network for young Moravians around the Unity to attend Moravian camps in the Northern and Southern Provinces. Through the facilitation of Chris Giesler, four young people from Labrador participated in Middle High Camp at Laurel Ridge Camp, Conference, and Retreat Center in North Carolina. They also spent time in Winston Salem enjoying fellowship with other Moravians and touring Old Salem with Chris and Tina.

From the thank you note the BWM received this week from our siblings in Labrador:

This has been a wonderful experience! The youth met 70 others from around the United States, building relationships and creating bonds which will last a lifetime. This opportunity opened their minds and hearts, allowing them to see beyond and foster hope. For instance, two youths who came along have never been out of Newfoundland and Labrador. This Moravian camp (which included other denominations) is situated in the mountains 3200 feet above sea level, which kept us immersed in nature all the while learning about our Creator, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

We want you to know that all the youth enjoyed every minute of the camp. It was wonderful to see 70 other youth their age praising God, this certainly encouraged them to do the same. (They all want to go back next summer). They grew their wings and created memories and connections that will never be forgotten. Again, we want to thank you in any way you helped in allowing youth from Hopedale to experience this fulfilling opportunity.

Many thanks to Adam and Steph Goodrich for hosting the group in the Friedland Moravian Church parsonage before camp and for hosting an evening of pizza and good fellowship with folks from the Union Cross and Friedland congregations. Thanks also to McKinley and Darlene Winters for traveling from Labrador with the youth so that they could all enjoy this experience together and to Tina Giesler for traveling with Chris and the group.
