MDR Update: Hurricane Helene (September 28, 2024)

The Board of World Mission is the agency that helps coordinate the North American Moravian response to disasters around the world. We are currently following Hurricane Helene’s impact from the Florida panhandle up into the Tennessee Valley region.

This was a powerful category 4 hurricane with a huge storm surge and heavy flooding, with some areas receiving more than 20 inches of rain. Reports from Moravians in south and central Florida show that they have fared well through the storm. We do not have Moravian congregations in the Florida panhandle, so we will coordinate our disaster response through our ecumenical partners who do have a presence there. We are also aware of heavy flooding in western North Carolina and are assessing impacts in that region now.  The needs will be significant over the next few weeks, and your gifts to the MDR fund would be most appreciated.

You can assist us with our disaster response efforts by going to www.MoravianMission.org/Give/ and clicking the green “Give” button. Please designate your gift to “MDR”.  If you wish to mail your donation, please make the check payable to “Board of World Mission” and send it to one of the following addresses:
