The Moravian Unity Mission and Development Board (UMDB) met June 3–4, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, bringing together representatives from provinces and mission agencies worldwide. The gathering offered space for worship, reflection, and robust discussions on the shared mission of the worldwide Moravian Church.
Throughout the meeting, participants shared updates on impactful ministries in their regions—from agricultural development in Tobago and theological education in South Asia, to refugee outreach in Malawi and church renewal in Europe. We were reminded that our mission—rooted in Word, Deed, and Relationships—is alive and thriving, even amidst global challenges.
A significant theme was collaboration in a rapidly changing world. Participants discussed the best ways to respond to the loss of critical outside funding from granting agencies and governments, the importance of theological grounding in ministry, and the church’s role in advocating for justice and reconciliation. Ongoing efforts, such as Project 32 in the British Province, contextual theology dialogues supported by ZZg, and expanding mission fields in Tanzania and South Asia, reflect the church’s commitment to sustainable and Spirit-led growth.
All four Moravian regions (Africa, Europe, Latin America & Caribbean, and North America), as well as Moravian mission agencies, were represented. The Board also heard from global mission partners, including the Moravian Archives Project in the Caribbean, as well as updates from agencies such as BWM, HMH, BDM, and the British Mission Board. These reports highlighted both the diversity of our work and the unity of purpose that unites us.
As we move forward, we remain committed to deepening relationships across the Unity, strengthening local ministries, and discerning together how God is calling us to serve today.
