The Rev. David Guthrie, president of the Provincial Elders Conference (PEC) in the U.S. Southern Province, assumed the office of president of the Unity Board of the Worldwide Moravian Church in January. He succeeds The Rev. Dr. Cortroy Jarvis, who concluded his service on the Provincial Board of the Eastern West Indies with a year remaining on this term. Under Church Order, the vice president of the Unity Board assumes the role of president if the incumbent can no longer serve. Rev. Guthrie, who was elected vice president in 2018, will serve as president until the September 2020 Unity Board meeting.
The Unity Board is composed of representatives, usually PEC presidents, from each of the 24 Unity Provinces and five Mission Provinces of the worldwide church. The board continues and manages the work of the Unity Synod, which meets every seven years.
Rev. Guthrie earned his M.Div. at Moravian Theological Seminary in 1986. From 1986 until 2003, he served as pastor of first Prince of Peace Moravian Church and then Rolling Hills Moravian Church, both located in Florida. He served as executive director of the Board of Evangelism and Home Missions for seven years before being elected president of the Southern Province PEC in 2010.
Your prayers are invited for Dr. Jarvis, who on Jan. 5th was installed as pastor of the Memorial Moravian Church, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and for the continuing work of the Unity Board.
