Provincial Stewardship For Ministry

The Provincial Stewardship Presentation was offered via Zoom on Monday November 18, 2024 at 6pm.

Our Chief Financial Officer, Renee Honey shared the provincial budget and is available for questions via email or phone if you were not able to attend. All ministry professionals (clergy, educators, acolytes), treasurers, financial secretaries, board members are encouraged to attend each year or watch the recording for information about our shared ministry as a province and for planning for 2025.

This 2025 budget information illustrates where your congregation’s contribution goes and, more importantly, how it furthers God’s mission. A more comprehensive provincial budget is available upon request from the Finance Office. Please contact Renee Honey at [email protected] or (336)793-0093.

OUR SHARED MINISTRIES: These are shared ministries that we do together -not as individual congregations- that are only possible with everyone’s support. The Southern Province’s Shared Ministries commitment system spreads common ministry expenses among congregations in a fair and predictable way.  Thank you for your full participation in the powerful work our shared ministries allow us to do.

We invest in God’s mission in faithfulness to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission through ministries like the Board of World Mission, the Provincial Elders’ Conference, and the Interprovincial Board of Communication. This year the Southern Province commitment will include a focus on Hurricane disaster response teams, greater support for Estamos Unidos Ministry, new fellowships in the FL/GA district and other opportunities.

To strengthen our witness in the world, we believe that it is important to care for our leaders, both lay and ordained. Under the direction of the Provincial Elders’ Conference, the Commission on Ministry created a Clergy and Educator self-care taskforce to attend and (Res #25) to cultivate more space for self-care among our leaders. We are focusing on spiritual growth through the first call cohort and group spiritual direction offerings. Christian education support (Res #29) especially for new attendees to the Annual Association of Partners in Christian Education Event building skills and inspiration for faith formation in our province.

We value our investment in opportunities for people to hear and respond to God’s call in their lives. That investment is apparent through the Commission on Ministry: working to improve infrastructures of support for ministry professionals through certification, ordination, and continued education. The development of a new Lay Ministry training course per Synod Res #27 and continued support for Moravian Theological Seminary. The Provincial Elders Conference and Bishops support for clergy and educators through their educational endeavors, call processes, moving expenses, etc.

We express our identity through everything we do, whether that’s the Moravian Team for Racial, Cultural, and Ethnic Reconciliation, the Interprovincial Board of Communication, the Moravian Archives, the Moravian Music Foundation, Moravian Theological Seminary, Synod planning, or the work of the Provincial Elders’ Conference. We look forward to Synod planning teamwork and opportunities will be offered for mini-racial justice pilgrimages. As well as, invitations to tell the stories of Jesus’ action in your ministry through the Moravian Magazine, Essentials newsletter, etc.

Operations enable all ministry to happen through funding who we support and how we serve. All of the work of the Moravian Church, Southern Province relies on Provincial operations budgets, the Provincial office, the Finance office and Provincial Support Services Board, and the Interprovincial Board of Communication’s production of “The Moravian.” In 2025 we will focus on auditing and streamlining financial, payroll, and reporting processes, refining communication, and restart a Provincial HR Committee.

Under the direction of the Provincial Elders’ Conference the Commission on Congregational Development will review the outcomes of the 2024 congregational cohort for future endeavors, continue congregational consultations for leadership, faith formation and youth ministry, and disseminate resources to facilitate curiosity, appreciative inquiry and ministry mutuality throughout the province. Through collaboration with the Association of Partners in Christian Education (APCE), Board of World Mission and others we enjoy resources and opportunities to serve God’s world as disciples.

Moravians, at heart, are ecumenical in nature. We believe that our witness is strongest when we work in collaboration with our ecumenical partners- here in North America and around the world. We continue to open dialogue with ecumenical partners for shared ministry opportunities in local contexts. The wide variety of ministry and collaboration continues to engage Moravians at all levels in the work of the Church Universal through the work of interprovincial ministries, the Unity Board, Bishops, the Provincial Elders’ Conference, the National and World Councils of Churches, and many ecumenical boards, agencies, and dialogue teams.
