Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I know this sounds cliché, but I can’t believe that I’m writing an article for the November newsletter already. I have been looking at some memories on Facebook recently and have been amazed at events that I thought perhaps took place one or two years ago. I look at the dates of those events and realize that they took place three, four, maybe as many as eight years ago. It’s been said that time flies when you are having fun. If that is true, I must be having a blast because time is certainly flying by.
As I think about the passing of time, I am reminded again that time is a gift. We are given 24 hours in a day – no more and no less (unless we are switching to or from daylight saving time). What we do with those 24 hours is our gift to the world and to ourselves! So often we think that we have to do large and wonderful things with our time, but sometimes just to be faithful to ourselves and those dear to us is large and wonderful.
Sometimes one of the best uses of our time is to care for ourselves. As I am writing this I was supposed to be returning from an out of town meeting. I did not attend that meeting because I was not feeling well. I am feeling better now and wish I could have attended the meeting but my body was telling me to get more rest. Not attending the meeting allowed me to care for myself. I don’t miss many meetings because of illness, so I can assure you I was not feeling well. As we look to the last two months of this calendar year I encourage you to be attentive to how your use your time. And… don’t forget to take some time for yourself.
Serving Christ with you,
Pastor Bruce J. Nelson
