August Thirteenth Festival† — Joshua 24:16-24; Psalm 133
1 John 4:1-13; John 17:1-2,6-19

Saturday, August 13 — Psalm 97:1-6
Joshua 19:40–21:8; Luke 17:1–10

The servant of God said, “I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I did not hide my face from insult and spitting.” Isaiah 50:6

Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29

Today, Lord, we remember how a small community of believers humbled themselves before the Lamb of God in a celebration of communion, put aside their differences, and welcomed the power of your Holy Spirit to guide them to work together for your kingdom. Rekindle that spirit in us today, and revive us to serve you in dynamic ways. Amen.

† On this date in 1727 in Berthelsdorf, Saxony (now Germany), a group of quarreling Christians experienced their unity in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. This new Pentecost marked the revival of the Unity of the Brethren, begun in 1457, and the beginning of the Renewed Moravian Church.
