Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
Ministers’ Covenant Day†
Watchword for the Week — Jesus asks, “But who do you say that I am?” Mark 8:29
Sunday, September 16 — Isaiah 50:4–9a; Psalm 116:1–9
James 3:1–12; Mark 8:27–38
Turn, O Lord! How long? Have compassion on your servants! Psalm 90:13
Jesus said, “You have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.” John 16:22
Tender Lord, each day we are made aware of pain and suffering among your scattered children. With each newscast, our hearts ache at the trials and tribulations of your people. Yet your mercies are new every morning. Help us to spread your compassion to all in need. Lead us back to joy and peace. Amen.
