The LORD declares: far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be treated with contempt. 1 Samuel 2:30

Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23

God of all, when we despise our neighbor, we despise you. When we scorn our neighbor, we scorn you. Our anger and greed tear down the house you have built for us with your mighty hands. Deliver us from the poison of selfishness. Help us give thanks for your free gift of love by extending that love to others. Amen.
