Conference Overview
Intersynodal Conference 2024 – Hosted at New Philadelphia Moravian Church
The conference will take place in October of 2024 on Friday, the 25th from 5:30-9 PM and continue Saturday, the 26th from 9 AM-4 PM, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church (4440 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104). Dinner will be provided Friday, and lunch will be provided Saturday.
The focus of this year’s conference is Shift 2.0: Helping congregations back into the game of effective ministry by Dr. Phil Maynard. Dr. Maynard will be in attendance, giving a keynote speech Friday evening. Two copies of Shift 2.0 are available for each congregation to pick up at the Moravian Church Southern Province office (459 S Church St Winston Salem) or will be delivered otherwise if pick up is not feasible. The MCSP will be working with churches throughout the province to plan engagement with Shift 2.0 throughout the year leading up to the conference in October. The CCD and MCSP will be sharing resources to engage your congregation in Shift 2.0 and its methods over the course of the year as well. Those resources can be found here and here.
Travel Information
Travel
For those traveling more than 200 miles to arrive at the intersynodal conference, the province will assist with travel costs. From North Carolina and Georgia locations more than 200 miles away, the province will pay the current IRS rate per mile for one car from each congregation. Delegates arriving from Florida, if you choose to fly, you may receive up to $500 each for travel expense. Those driving from Florida will receive $500.00 for mileage reimbursement.
Reimbursement of travel expenses will be made after the conference when receipts (or mileage information) are received in the PEC office. The province will not reimburse travel expenses for any travel cancellations, flight changes, or airline tickets purchased less than 30 days before the convening of the conference.
Flight Arrangements
Florida delegates are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and, if traveling by air, should arrive at the Greensboro, NC airport no later than 3:00 pm, Friday, October 25th and schedule departing flights for Saturday, October 26th after the conference which will conclude at 5:00 pm. Transportation to and from the airport will be provided.

Workshop 1- Youth Faith/Ministry Formation
Led by Southern Province Youth Ministry Specialist Monique Richards
Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees consider the ways youth want to engage with church, how to get new youth coming to church, and how to keep them coming.

Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees consider the vast extent of ways their church building could be used to better help their local community and further the message of faith in God.

Workshop 3- Grant Writing
Led by Contact of Moravian Ministry Foundation in America
Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees learn how to look for and write grant applications. Grants can be used to fund mission work, church functions, general administration, service projects, and more.
Workshop 4- Asset Assessment
Led by Ruth Burcaw
Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees analyze the assets of their church and its members. Assets can include the church building, connections or careers of members, or anything else that could help further, grow, or develop your ministry.

Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees better tell the story of their church. How did your church come to be? What unique events have taken place at your church? What makes your ministry different from other Moravian ministries? From other denominations?
Workshop 6- Evangelism
Led by Rev. Dr. Dion Christopher
Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees consider what Moravian evangelism looks like and how to do the work of sharing and growing others’ faith in God.
Workshop 7-Faith Formation
Led by Rev. Christy Clore
Desired Outcomes: This workshop will help attendees to explore a variety of ways to develop Biblical engagement and Christian faith practices in congregational and ministry settings.
