Southern Province Commissions

Commission on Ministry 

The Commission on Ministry (COM) was created by the Provincial Elders’ Conference in 2017 to support the ministry of the Southern Province. The commission specifically offers guidance to candidates preparing for ordained ministry, for Christian Educators seeking certification and those preparing for service as acolytes. The Commission works to equip, encourage and undergird ministry in all its forms throughout the Southern Province.  

The Rt. Rev. Lane A. Sapp serves as the Director of the Commission on Ministry of the Moravian Church, Southern Province. Lane served as founding pastor of Good Shepherd Moravian Church of Kernersville, NC and pastor of Calvary Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. He served two terms on the Provincial Elders’ Conference of the Moravian Church, Southern Province for a total of 11 years and was elected a Bishop of the Moravian Unity in 2002.  

Lane holds a Master of Divinity degree from Moravian Theological Seminary and is currently working toward certification as a Spiritual Director.  

Lane lives in Winston-Salem and is married to Lilyann Baker Sapp, a retired RN. Lane and Lilyann have twin sons, Jonathan, and Charles. An avid reader, Lane enjoys exploring topics in American history, particularly the presidency of Abraham Lincoln.  

Lane is a member of Calvary Moravian Church of Winston-Salem, NC. 

Commission on Congregational Development

The Commission on Congregational Development was created by the Provincial Elders’ Conference in 2021 to support the congregational and community ministries. The commission focuses their work on building capacity of congregational leaders, lay and clergy, sharing valuable resources for congregational health, and providing support by accompanying congregations through facilitation and consultation processes.  The commission works to equip congregations through spiritual growth and faith formation, mission and community development.

The Rev. Rebecca Craver serves as the Director of the Commission on Congregational Development. Rebecca served as pastor at Edgeboro Moravian Church, Bethlehem, PA and Associate Director of the Antioch Project with the Moravian Board of World Mission, Mission Developer with Zacchaeus’ Tree Congregation, Indianapolis, IN and Edmonton Moravian Church, Edmonton, AB, Canada. She served as the chair of the Healthier Congregations taskforce in the Moravian Church Northern Province for 7 years.

Rebecca holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Moravian Theological Seminary.

Rebecca lives in Durham, NC, with her spouse Bobbie and their two children. Rebecca enjoys art, theater and a long talks over a cup of coffee.
