Reports to: Director of Commission on Congregational Development

Status: Part time (20hrs/wk)

Position Overview: The Youth Ministry Specialist(s) work to enhance, support, connect and develop capacity in congregations around youth/young adult ministry and development through direct engagement, resource sharing and administration of faith formation, pastoral care and administrative support at the provincial level. This is an outward facing position with approx. 50% of the time spent seeking opportunities to meet with youth/young adult groups and individuals, leaders, boards, committees, etc. to support local programming and infrastructure.

There are two openings for this position. One will be based in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County. One will be based in the Florida Georgia District.

Essential Functions:

  • Prioritize and assist with prioritization of Youth/Young Adult Ministry among Moravian congregations, agencies, and ministries
  • Organize regional youth events and activate networks of youth groups and leaders.
  • Provide curricular and training resources for youth and young adults with annual updates relative to faith formation

Other Responsibilities

  • Directly and indirectly involve youth and young adults to be empowered, directed toward, and nurtured in a robust faith experience, both within and outside Moravian congregational experience.
  • Contribute to a report to the 2026 synod regarding progress in Youth/Young Adult Ministry.
  • Participate in management staff meetings and in faith formation team meetings as needed.
  • Update and maintain a Provincial Youth/YA Calendar of Events and contact information for youth/young adult congregational leaders.
  • Participate in and prioritize Moravian camp and retreat programming through Laurel Ridge and other Southern Province congregational retreat centers.
  • Network with congregations and ecumenical partners to build connections and capacity for resource sharing to aid in congregational youth/young adult ministry development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education or Related Field, or a minimum of five years’ experience with faith-based youth, young adult and/or college ministry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint), Internet, cloud computing, and willingness to learn additional web/database software
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office tools (printers, scanners. copy machines, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Christian Education
  • Familiarity with faith-based, religious programming and curricular materials
  • Experience with camp and college ministries
