Youth & Young Adult Ministry

Youth & Young Adult Ministry Update | September 12th, 2023

Way back in May of 2022, a team gathered to craft a vision for Provincial Youth and Young Adult Ministry. You can catch up more about what we discussed in that session by checking out this Report.

Following a fantastic summer 2022 camp season, we hosted a Mission Camp Reunion that brought together lots of our W-S folks for food, fellowship and service. Other Provincial groups also came together to collaborate on faith formation, community service and discipleship opportunities and we worked together to imagine a future with ties to the past and hope for the future!

We got started with really hopeful plans for 2023 and back in Feb, we planned some community activities – including serving sugar cake and coffee at Easter sunrise and welcoming the community to celebrate the Resurrection with us. I began an interim appointment in Provincial Youth Ministry in March of this year.

The summer of 2023 turned out a little differently than we expected as I navigated a catastrophic health crisis and we had to adjust/cancel some plans. Others on our team also had some health challenges last summer which set us on a different path, but many of our congregations and youth attended summer camp, arts camp, mission camp and SparkDwell opportunities and grew together in their faith as they turned another year older.

Now we turn to some exciting new pages in the journal on Provincial Youth and YA Ministry — another Mission Camp Reunion (Oct 7), plans for Youth Ministry Listening Sessions to craft a formal job description for our Provincial Youth Ministry Specialist position, a confirmation cohort of students from at least 6 (!) congregations, Fall programming and Bible studies, youth leader training and preparation including QPR Suicide Awareness training sessions, opportunities for youth-specific service on Moravian Day of Service (Sept 17) and renewing some of our small group youth/ya discipleship opportunities.

Looking forward to what God does with this team next! –

Love as a Verb,

Rev. Dana Myers
