Today, Tuesday December 1st, is Giving Tuesday, the last in a series of money-related pseudo-holidays: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and finally today, Giving Tuesday.
This year we have set a goal of gaining 20 new monthly donors who give at least $20. This 20/20 goal is our way of saying goodbye to a truly unique year that has seen the world change in completely unexpected ways. While it wasn’t the year we were expecting, it was the year we got— so we made the most of it. We offered grants to congregations in the Northern and Southern provinces to help them adapt to online worship. To date, we have distributed over $14,000 from our Moravian Disaster Response fund to 62 Moravian congregations and agencies. We distributed an additional $15,000 to Honduras, Cuba, and Peru to help with food, medical supplies, and other essential items. On top of our Covid-related efforts, we have sent upwards of $40,000 in aid to communities in Honduras and Nicaragua following back to back hurricanes.
This is all to say that even in a year as unprecedented, tragic, and chaotic as this one, we have still taken advantage of every opportunity given to us to fulfill our mission: building and sustaining relationships through Mission Outreach and Mission Engagement while being faithful to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
Hurricanes Eta and Iota have caused significant damage across La Mosquitia. However, this situation has also been a testament to the way God can work through difficult circumstances. A generous donor has offered a matching gift opportunity to help the Moravian Disaster Response program increase its impact at this much needed time. The donor is offering up to $5,000 in matching funds for gifts received for MDR and the hurricane relief efforts underway in Honduras and Nicaragua. The donor would like to specifically encourage new donors to sign up as monthly donors to provide regular scheduled donations. If you sign up to be a recurring donor, your donation will be matched at 3 times the first monthly payment.
We have been able to provide an amazing amount of aid through mission grants, the clinic in Ahuas, and especially our Moravian Disaster Response fund, but we want to do more and we need your help. This Giving Tuesday please consider a donation to The Board of World Mission.
