April 4, 2024: Day of Prayer for the Moravian Church in Labrador

The first Thursday in April is the Board of World Mission’s day of prayer for the Moravian Church in Labrador, which is a Mission Province of the Worldwide Moravian Unity. Moravian mission work began in Labrador in 1752. In recent years, the Board of World Mission’s partnership with the Moravian Church in Labrador has been focused on helping to address the area’s clergy shortage. Almost two years ago, a lay minister training program resulted in the commissioning of six new lay ministers who have been serving the province’s four congregations. The church in Labrador is also finding new hope in two leaders who are finishing their education and are pursuing ordination. They will be holding a provincial synod next month.

The prayer requests from our siblings in Labrador are below. Please pray for:

  • Our youth, especially age 13 to early 30s, where suicide is most prominent.
  • Our lay ministers and chapel servants,  for strength and leadership in all our congregations: Happy Valley, Makkovik, Hopedale, and Nain.
  • For McKinley and Darlene Winters as they complete their Master’s degrees and prepare for ordination.  We pray for their spiritual guidance and growth in our Lord.
  • Unity in our Province and around the Moravian world.
  • Wisdom and guidance for the delegates to our coming Synod, May 22-23, 2024
